Sunday April 16th
I needed to do a shorter and more local pick today as I needed to do some revision for some exams at school next week. We decided to park near the Pyrland Farm Shop and do a loop down Lyngford Lane and back up Dorchester Road. That was our plan – what happened was that we found so much litter and rubbish down Lyngford Lane that we called a halt at the bottom and turned back. We only made it half way back up though before Dad thought it was best if I waited with the bags and he went back to get the car.

I revised in the morning and we eventually set out around 3. It was raining enough for the windscreen wipers to come on as we drove to our start – but it didn’t rain too much whilst we were walking.
We found rubbish everywhere - only a little at first but once we got into Lyngford Lane it really picked up.
I did a pick in Wellington a short while ago and we found a lot of dog poos in a short space of time. I think Lyngford Lane probably has the Wellington Park beat. There were dog poo bags hanging high and low, there were unbagged dog poos as well just by the side of the road – just horrible.
There was a plastic bottle in a farmers field that we couldn’t quite reach by stretching so I had to climb under the gate to get it.
Near the top of the lane there were several bits of what looked like flytipping in the hedges. We saw a sink on the top of one hedge – it looked like it had been there a while. There were also some larger items that we could not pick.
We also found a lot of alcohol bottles and cans all the way down the lane. Some chucked well into the hedge some left just by the entrance to people’s driveways.
About halfway down the lane there is a closed off path where some houses are being built. Someone had decided to just dump a bag of rubbish there – I emptied this and separated into recycling and rubbish and cleared it up.
I think some of the rubbish near the bottom of the lane has probably come from the building which is going on.
We didn’t walk very far today only 2.2KM but in that time we picked up a total of 14.53kg - made up of 8.93 kg of rubbish and 5.6kg of recycling.
I've now done 31 picks and my total is up to 259KG of litter and 149.46 km covered.
