Today was my first pick in a few weeks – I had a school trip before Easter which meant I was away for a long weekend. We then had the easter holidays,a couple of birthdays and various sports clubs which started up again which means lots of other things have got in the way . We also had a broken spring on our litter picker pro! Couldn’t go out with only 1. Dad has partially fixed it with a paper clip and an elastic band!
We chose a route today based on a recent dog walk Dad had done where he saw a lot of litter in one place – we think it’s probably a place where a homeless person has spent some time before moving on and they had left it in a bit of a state. This was on the top of Cotlake Hill in the little copse.

There were lots of crisp packets some polystyrene packaging, paper, food packets. A surprising amount crammed into a little area.
On the way to our route we headed up Amberd Lane and ticked off another find of one of the most common items –McDonalds take away packaging.
From Cotlake we headed down the hill - we picked up a couple of dogs poos from the path (we always try and pick up after our Dogs and it’s not very nice to see poos left on the pathways) and then along the stream towards Vivary Park.
We had planned on going along the path towards Huish – but the litter bag was already quite full so instead we headed through the park. We weren’t going to do any picking in the park itself as we thought there was usually someone who goes through and does it but we did find several small bits of plastic and sweet wrappers and it seemed wrong to just leave it so we picked those up as well.
From the park it was down through Wilton Lands and Fons George before heading back towards home along Sherford Stream.
It was not our biggest collection today we got 6.04 kg in total comprised of 0.87 kg of recycling and 5.21 kg of rubbish – if those don’t add up – blame the scales!
We walked for 2 hours covering 8.3KM.

We have left some signs out on our route so that hopefully people can see what we have done. We only leave them up for a few days before we go round and take them back in.
