I’ve managed 2 picks in on consecutive weekends for the first time in ages! Today we went to pick up our signs from last week before we went out on our pick, and then decided for this litter pick, we were going to go to Bishops Lydeard which was only a short drive away.
We didn’t really expect to find much as we thought Bishops Lydeard was a well looked after village, however even shortly after starting as we headed down the lane into the village we were surprised to find so much in the hedges.
We walked through the village past the Co-Op and school and headed down to a little park – we walked through the car park and then along the side of a little stream – where we found so much rubbish. As we were trying to get a bit of rubbish in the stream my dad almost fell over and slipped into the stream!
Someone had obviously had a good night in the park as we found 6 or 7 cider cans by a bench – although they clearly know their limit as they had left a full one!

The weirdest thing we found were a pair of trainers discarded in the trees.

As we were on the way back to the car we noticed a lot of rubbish by a bench in a churchyard – there were salad pots, sandwich packs, crisp packets and fruit - this was really quite frustrating as it was only a short walk away from the co-op and they would have had to walk right by 2 bins. They clearly chose a lovely place to eat and then ruined it for the next person.

We then walked back to the car – on the way back a local helpfully pointed out rubbish we needed to pick up! Dad got a bit carried away with our photographic documentation – he took a photo of a lager can and then walked off having forgotten to actually pick up the can!
We got back to the car just before the rain hit – which was lucky.
Overall we walked 3.9km and collected 2.6kg of litter and 3.1kg of recycling.
