Great Western Canal

It has been a long time since we've been out on a pick, as we've been busy most of the summer; we went for a long walk along Hadrians Wall - I debated taking the litter pickers with me but we had enough to carry as it was so decided that we would have to leave them at home. There was so much litter in Newcastle - I think I could have picked up an enourmous amount if we had had the pickers!

I have also spent time with family who live in the Cambridge area.

We also avoided going out in the heatwave earlier in the summer as it was too hot to do anything but hide in the shade!

Which means it has been a long time - for Sunday's pick we decided to mix it in with our dog walk so decided to go down to the Grand Western Canal - starting at Lowdwells Lock and heading in the direction of Tiverton.

My brother Ben came along to help look for litter as well. He was a bit reluctant as he had done a CycloCross competition in the morning but I think once he got out with us he enjoyed it!

Overall we did 10k - walking as far as Ebears Bridge on the canal and then turning around.

We found 0.67kg of rubbish and 0.13kg of recycling. it was good to see that there wasn't too much litter down there, as it shows people think about what they're doing with their litter -either that or someone had already been out on Sunday before us.

Our dog Bean loves swimming, so she went in the water and then couldn't get back out! My dad had to go and help her and then fell in stinging nettles, Ben and I tried not to laugh!

We found a lot of poo bags on our walk, which is a little frustrating, as it wouldn't be hard to carry and there are dog poo bins along the way!

It was a nice pick, and although our numbers are low for this pick it was nice to see there wasn't much litter down there.
