We stayed up late to watch Eurovision last night (go Sam!) what a great night – however that meant we were a bit tired today.
It wasn’t very nice weather today – possibly our first pick in the rain.
Before we went out to do our pick, we went out to collect our signs from last weeks litter pick. Unfortunately 2 of them had disappeared. One had gone completely, both the bamboo stick and the sign.
The second we found the sign but the stick was nowhere to be seen. We don’t think they could have blown out/away so presume someone must have taken or destroyed them. The third was still in place so we took that with us to use again today.
We started walking along the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal – from the firepool lock heading toward Bridgwater. We did find some rubbish – mainly Budweiser cans and bottles, cigarette packets and dog poo bags but pleasingly there was not too much. However once we got past the Priorswood tip bridge there was very little. We thought that maybe someone had already been along here and picked stuff up. So thought we’d head back to the car.
Rather than just retrace our route we headed away from the canal and through the industrial estate.
We thought there would be more litter/rubbish here but we didn’t expect there to be as much as we found.
Almost as soon as we got to the road we started to find rubbish - lots of Costa Coffee cups, snack food wrappers, beer cans and the usual McDonalds packaging. There must be a lot of customer traffic to and from the business units as well as delivery drivers. Whoever they are, they drop a lot of litter.

We got
5.43 Kg of rubbish (including several dog poo bags)
3.4 Kg of recycling
And what appeared to be half a litre of urine in a plastic bottle!
