Litter Pick Number 3

It was quite cold today, and we weren’t sure where to litter pick, we thought as we’re still new at the litter picking business we’d stay a bit local so we drove down to Queens School and headed off down Queens Drive – we did a winding 5.2 km in a loop from Queens College. The rubbish finds started off quite slow and only got a few small bits of rubbish to begin with – we thought we’d chosen the wrong place but as we got further along we did find more.
Rubbish Collected
Overall we got 6.96 kg of rubbish.
We found quite a lot of what looked like the stuffing from the inside of a duvet stuck in bushes and in a wired fence – this doesn’t add much weight but it does make quite a mess.
We picked up a large plastic sheet from Garages in Sherford – there was a family of snails stuck to this which we had to rescue and put back in the hedge.
Near the end of the walk we also found lots of little polystyrene squares on the road and path – we had seen these blowing on the road before on bin day and it has been blowing and spreading since.
We pulled a large plastic sheet that looked like it used to be a cover for a garden propagator in Sherford Stream – that was a little bit tricky to retrieve.
The worst thing we saw today was the bin in Sherford Park – it’s clearly been full for a while but people are still trying to put rubbish in/around it and people are just dumping dog poo bags next to it. Not the most pleasant place for kids to play. Dad was a bit annoyed about this – he said If the bin is full you should really take your poo bags home with you. There was no way we could pick all of that up but we will report the bin as full.
We also found 2 dog poos within 10 metres of dog poo bins which had just been left – we picked these up and disposed of them properly.
