Party in the Park

This weekend has been a little different – I had to pause my litter picking as I was running a stall at the Party in the Park near where I live, we also had a street party on the Thursday and I (and mum and dad) have just run out of time.
The party in the park is part fete – with lots of stalls, games and food and performances from a variety of people etc and then in the evening it morphs into a party with live music and more food.
There are lots of local organisations (school, pre-school, scouts, guides, Trull Meadow Trust and on and on) that run stalls and fundraise for their causes – there are also lots of local small business that come along and take part. It’s great fun and we’re so grateful for the effort the organisers put in. There were 4 of us who were fundraising for Cambodia and our stalls were all located next to each other which was nice.
At the Fete I was running a small stall selling bracelets, soak on tattoos and small cakes (brownies, cookies & cornflake cakes) – there was a lot of preparation that had to be done – with the making of some of the bracelets and the cooking. We brought some thread from Fine Fabrics Taunton | Facebook in Taunton and the lady asked what I was buying the thread for – I explained about my trip and she was kind enough to donate £1 to our cause.
The weather was not great in the morning and when Dad and my brother set up the Gazebo (thankyou to Grandma & Grandpa for loaning it to us) for our stall it was very windy and a little grey and damp. By the time the fete started though the greyness had lightened – the wind was still gusty but it was certainly a brighter feeling day. By the end of the fete the sun was out and it was beautiful.
My friends Ellie and Libby and my Sister Zoe helped me run my stall – it was really fun.
There was also a small flypast by the Red Arrows as they headed out to Weston Super Mare via Taunton.
I had a small sign highlighting my litter picking and did get some donations through as a result of that.
Dad and my brother Ben helped a little with the clear up today – raking up some straw from some hay bales that the children had had a great time playing in in the evening; they also took a small part of the huge amount of recycling to the tip. Several bags of plastic bottles and cups, lots of cardboard burger boxes and many many bottles – I think that tenuously counts as a litter pick! Although not one I will register.
Whilst Ben and Dad were at the tip – Ben was explaining to someone else about the Party in the Park and he got on to talking about my trip to Cambodia – he explained about our stall and also about my sponsored litter picking. The man was kind enough to donate £5.
With the donations and sales from this week we raised £112.57 – and had a lot of fun at the same time.
I have also had several donations from the pick I did on Monday – I am so grateful for each and every one.
