Year Long Litter Pick

My First Litter Pick - Saturday 26 February

Today I went on my first litter pick - my Dad has bought a couple of "Litter Picker Pros" (if you say that name enough when you're out walking you'll end up singing a little song about them - who said litter picking couldn't be fun!) having them means we don't have to do any bending over or get our hands dirty.

We divided our pop up bag into 2 sections - one for dog poop bags - we weren't really sure we would find many of those but just in case wanted to keep those separate. The other half was reserved for general rubbish.

We figured we would start local for our first pick so we went for a wander around Staplehay and Trull. Luckily the weather today was bright sunshine with little or no wind. Armed with our litter picker pros we set off to walk around the local community

Litter Collected

We found a surprising amount of litter on our first walk - we picked up 7kgs of rubbish.

There were lots of bottles and cans, crisp packets, 2 Tesco quiche outers, some takeaway sandwich outers, 4 or 5 full dog poo bags (as well as several empty), a McDonalds cup, several straws, lots of sweet wrappers and lots of other little bits.

Sadly we also noticed lots of unbagged dog poo - we didn't have any dog poo bags with us - we will remember to take some of those next time - we did manage to borrow one bag to pick up a particularly badly positioned dog poo which was in Comeytrowe Park a short distance away from the play equipment.

It was a lovely day for our first walk and we covered 7.2km - along the following route.
